Barler (1833-1907) was a merchant, deputy sheriff and a Texas Ranger, living in and around Llano, Texas. He also fought for the Confederate States of America in the 29th Georgia Infantry Regiment. In November 1835, Texas lawmakers created a corps of Texas Rangers to guard the frontier between the Brazos and Trinity Rivers.
